Please be advised of the modified policy in the Upper School concerning use of cell phones. The change was necessary because of the inordinate amount of cell phone violations during the first two weeks of school.
As of Friday, September 23, 2011, students are not allowed to have cell phones in their possession from the time they enter school in the morning until 3:45 p.m. (2:45 p.m. on Wednesday). If they need to bring them to school, they must not be seen or heard during the school day—they are to be powered off. They are not to be used, under any circumstances, until the end of the school day.
Students may use their cell phones after school, by the school fountain, if they must call a driver, parent, etc.
On a first offense, the cell phone will be confiscated and given to the Principal. An official warning will be issue, and the parents will be notified. The phone will be returned to the student at the end of the school day.
On any subsequent offense, the phone will be confiscated, given to the Principal, and held until a parent comes to pick it up. The student will receive one cumulative morning detention (7:15 a.m. to 8:00 a.m.) for each subsequent offense. (If the phone has been confiscated three times, the student will be assigned three morning detentions, etc.)
Thank you for your cooperation and understanding.
Dr. Robert Esenberg, Upper School Principal
