Welcome to the Casablanca American School Lower School Webpage!
Our Lower School is comprised of two sections, a Preschool for Nursery (3 year olds) and Kindergarten (4 year olds) and a Lower School building for Pre-First (5 year olds) to grade 5. We follow a Standards-based curriculum with benchmarks identified for each subject. Our staff continues to write units based on the Understanding by Design model using Atlas Rubicon.
Our Preschool program follows the High Scope Program from Michigan and creates an enriching environment where children learn through play and social interaction. Children also follow a Plan Do Review process which allows them to make choices and reflect upon the choices they have made.
Our staff provides an enriching and challenging school environment which creates a rigorous educational learning experience but also focuses on developing the child as a whole through a differentiated program. Our support programs include ELL teachers for students new to speaking English, a Reading Specialist who coaches teachers and students in Reading, a PACE (Program of Ability Centered Education) teacher who addresses students’ learning needs, a FIT (Focused Instructional Time) teacher who addresses the specific reading needs of children and a Counselor who works with students’ emotional and social needs.
Our Lower School has two sections of each grade with a maximum class size of 22 students (18 for Preschool). 3 hours of French and Arabic classes each week begin at grade 2 and are mandated by the Government of Morocco until grade 10.
We use MAP (Measure of Academic Progress) as a standardized test to collect data on students and to evaluate the effectiveness of our programs. The MAP test is administered three times a year with a report going home to parents each time it is administered.
Our LSSC (Lower School Student Council), comprised of executive members and class representatives, fashion a welcoming social atmosphere within the school. Theme Days, special community support projects, fundraisers for needy organizations within the community, and Food drives help our Lower School focus on our duty as responsible citizens within a community.
Our After School Activities focus on sports, crafts, dance, choirs, playing musical instruments and other activities that our talented staff may provide. Our Lower School sports provide opportunities to compete in soccer, basketball, volleyball, badminton and track and field with schools inside and outside the city.
