“When we make the play the foundation of learning, we teach the whole child.” -Vince Gowmon
At Casablanca American School, we recognize the unique nature of early childhood and have thoughtfully adopted a curriculum that caters to the specific developmental needs of young children. For the past two years, we have proudly implemented The Creative Curriculum® by Teaching Strategies,
and we are honored to be one of only three schools outside the United States designated as a Creative Curriculum Ambassador School.
The Creative Curriculum® delivers an age-appropriate, student-centered, and inquiry-based framework designed to spark curiosity and foster a love of learning. Our 3-, 4-, and 5-year-old students engage with high-interest units such as “Trees,” “Reduce, Reuse, Recycle,” and “Clothing.” These topics captivate young learners and encourage deep exploration of the world around them. Learning is further enriched through regular field trips, guest speakers, and “celebration days,” where students proudly showcase their discoveries in creative and interactive ways.
We firmly believe that during these formative years, children need time to learn how to build relationships, develop motor skills, and adjust to the rhythm of the school day before focusing on more structured academics. The Creative Curriculum® fosters these essential life skills while supporting holistic development—cognitive, social-emotional, physical, and linguistic—through play-based, hands-on learning experiences tailored to each child’s natural curiosity.
This philosophy aligns closely with the IB Learner Profile, cultivating key attributes in our youngest learners:
Our educators work collaboratively to ensure that the curriculum is inclusive, culturally responsive, and reflective of our school community's unique dynamics. This thoughtful approach strengthens engagement, nurtures connections between home and school, and ensures that every child feels supported and valued.
Additionally, using Teaching Strategies GOLD Assessments allows us to track each child’s progress meaningfully. These observations inform individualized planning, ensuring that every learner receives tailored support and opportunities to thrive.
At CAS, we are committed to creating a nurturing, innovative, and developmentally appropriate environment where every child has the opportunity to grow, learn, and flourish while embodying the IB Learner Profile attributes from an early age.
